Tommy Tenderfoot Dutch Oven Beans

Recipe courtesy of:
Bill Walker, Boy Scout Troop 106, Pine Bluff, Arkansas

1 pound bacon
1 large onion, chopped
4 cans red beans, drained
1 bottle Bar-B-Q sauce
1 teaspoon Grey Poupon mustard
1/2 cup brown sugar
salt and pepper
12" Dutch oven

Hold back 4 slices of bacon and fry the rest.  Chop onion and brown in bacon grease.  Add beans (drained), bacon (cut up) and all other ingredients, salting and peppering to taste.  Put the 4 slices of bacon on top of the mixture.  Place a few (6-8) white hot charcoal briquettes under the Dutch oven and a bunch (15-20) of white hot charcoal briquettes on top of the Dutch oven.  Cook 30-45 minutes.  (As a rule, when the slices of bacon are done, the mixture should be done.)  Serves 8.
